Good Faith Estimate and the No Surprises Act

At Avita Integrative Care, we believe in transparency, clarity, and respect for our clients. The No Surprises Act is a federal law designed to protect individuals from unexpected medical bills and to help clients understand the expected cost of care before services begin.

This page explains your rights under the No Surprises Act and how Good Faith Estimates work for services provided at Avita Integrative Care in New Jersey.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is a written estimate of the expected cost of mental health services for individuals who are:

  • Not using insurance, or
  • Not submitting claims to insurance (self-pay clients)

The estimate outlines anticipated fees for services such as psychotherapy, psychological testing, or other clinical services you may receive.

When will I receive a good faith estimate

You are entitled to receive a Good Faith Estimate:

  • Before your first scheduled appointment, or
  • Upon request at any time, including before scheduling services

If you schedule services at least 3 business days in advance, you will receive the estimate no later than 1 business day before your appointment.
If services are scheduled at least 10 business days in advance, you will receive the estimate within 3 business days of scheduling.

What does the estimate include?

Your Good Faith Estimate will include:

  • A description of the services expected to be provided
  • The anticipated cost per session or service
  • An estimate of the total cost over a defined period of care
  • Provider and practice information

Please note that mental health treatment is individualized. Actual services or total costs may vary based on clinical needs, frequency of sessions, or changes in treatment planning.

What if my actual bill is much higher than the estimate?

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.

You may initiate a Patient-Provider Dispute Resolution process through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Information on how to dispute a bill can be found at: https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises

Insurance and good faith estimates

Good Faith Estimates apply to self-pay clients or clients who are not using insurance for services.
If you are using insurance, your costs are determined by your insurance plan, including deductibles, copays, and coinsurance.

Our administrative team is happy to help clarify billing questions before services begin.
